Among the eclectic collections of The Office of The Historian of The Town of Pelham are tax assessment rolls for the years 1820, 1821 and 1822. Each of these one-page documents lists the residents of the Town for that year, sets forth a valuation of their real property, a valuation of their personal property and sets a tax on the combined values of the real and personal property of each. Below is an image of the 1821 Assessment Roll.

At the top of the page, the document is entitled "The assessment roll of the real and personal Estates taken in the Town of Pelham this 12th May 1821 by George W. Prevost, David J. Pell and George W. Horton assessors of said Town". The handwriting, though beautiful, is exceedingly difficult to read in some instances. I have tried to decipher the handwriting and have compared the list of residents to the U.S. Census for the Town of Pelham taken in 1820 in an effort to resolve some of the more difficult to read entries. The 1820 census is less legible than the assessment roll. Nevertheless, below is a listing of some of the data I can make out.
