Early Images of the Original and Current Clubhouse Structures of the Manor Club in the Village of Pelham Manor, New York

Please Visit the Historic Pelham Web Site

Today's Manor Club, located at 1023 Esplanade in the Village of Pelham Manor, is a cultural, civic and social club for women. Although it had its beginnings in the 1870s, it was not organized formally until January 10, 1882. The clubhouse that stands today is not the original clubhouse. Today's clubhouse opened in 1922.

Periodically I have published postings to the Historic Pelham Blog dealing with the history of the Manor Club. See:

The Mystery of the "Manor Club Girl" That Set Pelham Tongues Wagging in 1913

Today's Historic Pelham Blog posting will provide two early views of the original clubhouse and an image of the architectural drawing of what was then the proposed new clubhouse designed by architect W. H. Orchard. The first such image appears immediately below.

The image immediately above is from an early post card view of the original clubhouse of the Manor Club built in 1887 - 1888.

The image immediately above shows a local resident, Henry Rupert, with his horse and buggy at the side steps leading to the porch in front of the Manor Club. Behind him a portion of the Esplanade is visible. The photograph, from the collections of The Office of The Historian of The Town of Pelham, was taken in 1908.

The image immediately above shows an architectural drawing of what then was the planned new clubhouse of the Manor Club. The drawing, by W. H. Orchard, architect, appeared in the April 2, 1921 issue of the Pelham Sun.
